YOUNG PERSON'S PROGRAMME

SUPPORTING CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

Small changes. Stronger minds. Skills for life.

Helping young minds feel calmer, think differently and believe in themselves.

Growing up can be wonderful - but it can also feel overwhelming.

Worries, anxiety, low confidence, self-doubt, friendship difficulties, pressure at school, big emotions and the feeling of “I can’t do this” can sometimes become bigger than a young person knows how to handle.

At Your Best Mind, I provide calm, supportive and personalised hypnotherapy and wellbeing support for children and young people aged 10+.

My aim isn’t to change who your young person is. It is to help them understand their mind, recognise their strengths and discover what they are capable of.

Through a combination of solution-focused hypnotherapy, neuroscience education, relaxation, practical wellbeing strategies and confidence-building techniques, young people can begin to feel more in control and develop useful skills they can continue to draw on long after our sessions together.

The Your Best Mind
Young Person’s Programme

Six weeks of personalised one-to-one support for greater confidence, calm and resilience

Sometimes a young person doesn’t need a quick fix.

They need time, space, understanding and the right tools.

The Your Best Mind Young Person’s Programme is a structured six-week, one-to-one programmedesigned to give a young person the consistency, support and space they need to begin making meaningful, positive changes.

The programme is a supported journey towards:

  • Greater confidence

  • Greater calm

  • Greater resilience

  • Stronger thinking skills

  • A better understanding of how their mind works

  • Practical tools they can use in everyday life

Every young person is different, so the programme is personalised around their individual needs, strengths, challenges and goals. The content and approach can adapt throughout the six weeks according to what is most helpful. From: “I can’t do this.”  Towards: “I can learn how to handle this.”

Small changes can create stronger minds — and skills that can last a lifetime.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME INCLUDE?

1. A dedicated initial consultation.

Before the programme begins, we start with an initial consultation.

This is an important first step and provides an opportunity to understand what is happening for your young person, what they would like help with and whether the Your Best Mind approach feels right for them.

The initial consultation will involve the parent, parent carer or guardian and/or the young person, depending on their age, circumstances and what feels most appropriate.

It is a relaxed but purposeful conversation where we can explore:

  • What has been happening

  • What feels difficult at the moment

  • What is already going well

  • Your young person’s strengths

  • What they would like to change

  • What you, as their parent or carer, have noticed

  • What they hope will be different as a result of our work together

There is no expectation that a young person needs to have all the answers.

The initial consultation gives us the opportunity to get to know them, answer questions, discuss how sessions will work and decide together whether the programme is a good fit.

We start with understanding — not assumptions.

2. Six personalised one-to-one sessions

Once we have completed the initial consultation and agreed that the programme is appropriate, the six-week programme begins.

Sessions are delivered one-to-one with the young person, creating a calm and supportive space where they can gradually develop confidence and become more comfortable engaging with the process.

Sessions may include:

  • Solution-focused talking and therapeutic conversation

  • Solution-focused hypnotherapy

  • Relaxation and guided meditation

  • Age-appropriate neuroscience education

  • Confidence and resilience building

  • Practical wellbeing strategies

  • Positive thinking and perspective-building

  • Tools to manage worry, overwhelm and difficult thoughts

  • Visualisation and mental rehearsal

  • Simple strategies to practise between sessions

Talking isn’t always necessary.

Sometimes a young person may benefit more from relaxation, visualisation, hypnosis, practical exercises or simply having the space to pause and reset.

The approach can therefore change from session to session according to what is most helpful.

A calm, comfortable space in Clevedon

Young people are usually seen in person at the Your Best Mind Calm Therapy Room, a beautiful private garden room in Clevedon.

The room provides a quiet, comfortable and relaxed environment away from the distractions of everyday life.

It is a space where a young person can take time for themselves, talk openly where appropriate and experience relaxation and hypnotherapy in a calm setting.

Online sessions are also available where this is appropriate and preferred.

At the initial consultation, we can discuss which setting is likely to work best for your young person.

Supporting parents and carers too

For many parents and carers, arranging hypnotherapy for a young person can feel unfamiliar.

You may wonder...

Will my child be comfortable on their own?  Do I need to stay?

What happens during a session? How much should I be involved?

These are all completely understandable questions. The longer-term preference is usually for the young person to have their sessions one-to-one, allowing them to develop independence and build their own relationship with the process.

However, particularly at the beginning, it can be helpful for a parent, carer or guardian to remain nearby.

You may choose to:

  • Stay close by in the car

  • Take a short walk locally

  • Visit a nearby café

  • Remain nearby and available without being in the room

  • Be present during the session if this is appropriate

  • Join the relaxation or trance element of a session, if you wish, with headphones

There is no single approach that works for every family. We can discuss the options together at the initial consultation and agree what feels most comfortable and appropriate for your young person.

The intention is to gradually give the young person their own space and confidence while ensuring that you, as their parent or carer, feel reassured and informed.

3. Personalised relaxation and hypnosis audio

Where appropriate, your young person may receive a personalised relaxation or hypnosis MP3 to use at home.

This gives them an opportunity to continue practising the skills developed during sessions and provides something familiar they can return to when they would benefit from additional calm, relaxation or mental space.

4. Practical tools between sessions

Change isn’t just about what happens during a session. Young people may be given simple, age-appropriate strategies and exercises to practise in everyday life.

These may help them to:

  • Understand their thoughts and responses

  • Manage worry and overwhelm

  • Build confidence

  • Recognise their strengths

  • Develop healthier thinking patterns

  • Create positive habits

  • Calm their minds and bodies

  • Feel more capable of handling challenges

The aim is to help each young person gradually build their own toolkit for life.

5. Progress reviews

Throughout the programme, we pause and reflect on what is changing.

We’ll consider:

  • What is going well

  • What feels different

  • Which strategies are proving useful

  • What your young person is noticing

  • Where further support might be helpful

The programme isn’t about achieving perfection. It’s about noticing progress.

What might the programme help with?

The Your Best Mind Young Person’s Programme may be particularly

helpful for young people experiencing:

Worry and overthinking  •  Anxiety and Stress •  Low confidence or self-belief

Feeling overwhelmed •  School-related pressure •  Self-doubt

Difficult or unhelpful thinking patterns •  Challenges with resilience

Fear of failure •  Confidence around change or new situations

Difficulty relaxing or switching off •  Sleep-related worries or difficulties

Sometimes the presenting problem isn’t the whole story. That’s why I take time to understand the young person rather than simply focusing on a label or symptom.

Building skills that last

One of the most important parts of the Your Best Mind approach is helping young people understand that their brains are adaptable.

They don’t have to believe every thought they have. They can learn to notice their thinking, understand their responses and develop different ways of handling situations.

Instead of: “I’m not confident.”  They can begin to think: “I can practise confidence.”

Instead of: “I can’t cope with this.”   They can begin to think: “I can learn ways to handle this.”

Instead of:  “Something is wrong with me.”  They can begin to understand: “I’m learning how my mind works, and I can learn new skills.”

These may seem like small shifts. But small shifts can become powerful changes over time.

Your child doesn’t need to become a different person.

They may simply need:

Time. Understanding. Encouragement. The right tools.

Someone to listen. A safe space to practise.

The Your Best Mind Young Person’s Programme is designed to provide those things.

My role isn’t to tell a young person who they should be. It is to help them recognise their strengths, understand their minds and discover that they may be more capable than they currently believe.

Is the Programme right for your young person?

If your child or young person is struggling with worry, confidence, anxiety, stress or overwhelm, they don’t have to work everything out on their own.

The first step is simply a conversation. An initial consultation gives us the opportunity to understand what is happening, what your young person needs and whether the Your Best Mind approach feels like the right fit.

There is no pressure to commit to the programme before we have had that conversation.
