FAQs
Straightforward answers to common questions and concerns about hypnotherapy.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, evidence-based approach that combines practical psychotherapy with gentle, relaxing hypnosis. Rather than analysing the past, we focus on where you are now and the positive changes you want to make moving forward.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No—this is one of the biggest myths. You remain fully in control the entire time. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused relaxation, similar to being absorbed in a book or daydream. You can hear everything, and you can come out of it whenever you choose.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe it as deeply relaxing and calming. You may feel physically settled, mentally clearer, and pleasantly detached from everyday worries. There’s no “right” way to experience it—everyone’s experience is slightly different.
What kinds of issues can you help with?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can support a wide range of concerns, including:
-
Anxiety and stress
-
Sleep difficulties
-
Low mood
-
Confidence and self-esteem
-
Phobias and habits
-
Overwhelm or burnout
If you’re unsure, you’re always welcome to get in touch to discuss your situation.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies as it is dependent on the client’ s situation, however this and the type of therapy will be assessed during the initial consultation. If you choose to go ahead after the IC, please note the minimum number of sessions required with me is x 4 sessions. A commitment to change and time is required for your therapy to be most effective. It is a much ‘ shorter in length’ therapy compared to CBT based talking therapies, but 8-10 sessions are recommended for treatment and therapy to be most effective and helpful for you. Hypnotherapy is often described as a journey of healing, and this is very much evident as clients progress is tracked over this period. Block bookings are discounted to encourage continuity and the best therapeutic outcomes. Sessions are usually taken weekly but can be arranged to suit your schedule. N.B: Results may vary and success is not guaranteed. The client will need to want to make the changes and full client commitment between sessions is important.
Do I need to share personal details about my past?
No. This approach is focused on the present and future. You’re always in control of what you choose to share, and we won’t explore anything you’re not comfortable discussing.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural process. It’s simply a guided state of relaxation that allows your mind to process things more positively and effectively.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Most people can enter a hypnotic state—it’s a natural ability we all have. Even if it feels like “nothing is happening,” your mind is still responding to the process. There’s no pressure to “do it right.”
Will it work for me?
While no approach can guarantee results, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is designed to help you make meaningful, lasting changes by working with how your brain naturally functions. Your commitment and consistency play an important role in the outcome.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s been going on for you, what you’d like to achieve, and I’ll explain how the brain works under stress.
Is it confidential?
Absolutely. Everything you share is treated with the strictest confidence in line with professional standards.
How do I get started?
Simply get in touch to book your initial consultation. From there, we’ll create a plan that feels right for you.
